My Philosophy
“The more I know, the more I can turn around and share with those around me.”
Before I knew about the instructional design field, I had a passion for teaching people what I knew. That manifested in a 5-year career in education, teaching English to middle schoolers, running a nonprofit program, and creating curriculum everywhere I went. Even in my everyday life, I loved stopping to explain what I knew to others to help them grasp something important to me, something interesting I had learned, or just giving context in casual conversation.
My process is always about outcomes. What does this person need to know? How do I bridge the gaps in their learning? Why is this crucial for them to understand? Drilling down into the often abstract questions of learning awakens an art inside of me. I know all of my teachings matter. The main ideas on a test, the social emotional lessons of life, and even just the little things, like a shortcut home. I'm always looking to help make people's lives easier by sharing whatever I know.
I often focus on these things so much that I have to remind myself that I, too, continue to listen and learn. Completing my certificate in Instructional Design at UC San Diego challenged me to use my teaching background in a new way as I tackled accessibility measures, modalities, and software to hone my skills in a new craft.
I aim to learn as much as I can in the field. Whether that's technique and craft, subject matter, or 21st-century tools. The more I know, the more I can turn around and share with those around me. I look forward to learning alongside you!
